1990 100 QT Avant

Beitrag von 44avantQT »

hi all, just wanted to put a few pics of my car up after finally managing to register on the forum, (nightmare trying work with online translators  )

i bought the car in January 08, it's a 1990 2.2 Quattro Turbo MC 10v motor and since then have spent a small fortune replacing the braking system, hydraulic system including the clutch cylinders, and general bits and bobs that were required to bring the car back up to scratch,

i've installed a custom stainless steel exhaust, and various engine parts to get the car running sweet, and up next is a new uprated ECU, and a set of 17" old style RS4 wheels,

i've also got a set of rear smoked lights ordered from custom auto craft which should be here by the end of the week,

so there's my introduction over and i hope you enjoy the pics,

Hi and a big welcome here from Munich ;)

Nice car indeed... My second type 44 was a light antrazite Avant looking pretty similar to yours. Only I took care to have the steering wheel mounted to the right, errr, left side :D

Any chance of gettin' more pix from the Avant and Scotland? ;)

Here you'll finde a few german get-together-pix:

Dear 44AQT, ;)

your speedo problem is a quite common one. ;) Hence, there's a repair guide in our online self docu:
http://audi100.selbst-doku.de/Main/KIPlatineNachl%f6ten

Here's the autotranslated version:
http://translate.google.de/translate?u= ... e&ie=UTF-8

There's even an english start page, but the links are autotranslated as well:

thanks Turbaxel, but after reading that, i may just live with it for now as it is an intermittent problem, or i may cansider just replacing the whole dash clocks as opposed to repairing the original, as it looks to be a very fiddly job.

very very nice Turbaxel, i love the 2 tone colour, very elegant, and also the colour goes very well with the Aero-6 wheels, a very nice example

i must ask though, i have seen this body shell many times, with the rounded rear arches, but i thought this shell only came on the 200? no?

was this shape standard on the 100 avant models? as i have never seen a UK car with these rear arches.

Audi 100 Sport (Avant)
Audi 200 20vT (so-called 220v)
Audi 200 Exclusiv

(OT: Fun telling in CZ about round ones: the hole logic/story behind this was "Hey Kraut, how many of those round arches we should made? what? .. cannot hear you ... ok .. you know what .. we will just build 200000 of those mkay? ... so they had a lil bit of overcamped the prod nrs. :D .. my colleague always hate this when im telling him a "story how the precise german engineer produced a lil bit more parts" :D )

those models were round :) ... anything else was "Flat" :)

i have seen two Sports ... one in "the almighty capitol" (near LHR) and other one in GLA

Well,

since the type 44 was ought to become the aerodynamics king, those rounded wheel arches simply had to go. As had the passenger side's rear mirror and a few other unimportant things. :P

If you keep in mind that well known features as the full flat Aero alloys (or the plastic caps), the small aerodynmic lip under the hood are there just because of low cw. So there's a very good technical reason for those flat wheel arches, indeed. They simply don't look as good and sporty as the rounded ones, though. To most people, that is. ;)

So Audi (Treser etc.) began to produce small ammounts of custom built carswith rounded arches. They sold well, so Audi decided to use this feature as an official destinction detail for exclusive and sporty or luxury models ( V8 )...

But, the fender of a 200 20V is unlike the fender of a 10V Sport and so on. The V8 again ;)

well, i got my smoked tail lights today, and after work i decided to fit them as i could'nt wait untill the weekend

removing this black panel was a bit of a nightmare as the 4 retaining screws on the underside were rusted rotten,

Bild

but after several different tools and some perserverance later, i got it off, all be it i actually broke it :-( but not to worry as it is redundant anyway :-)

Bild

and now with the lights fitted,

That Avant looks really nice - inside and outside.

The flared fender cars are pretty sought after, as these are pretty rare and often well equiped.

When it comes to drag and Aerodynamics, those arches do not have a large negative effect on it, but in the beginning they were simply not necessary, as the wheel track was pretty narrow for a vehicle of that size (almost identical to the Audi 100 C2).

Welcome and all the best,
Olli

Olli, what are the specs of your car? I love all the testing and upgrading you've done to it. Any idea about the HP/Nm? And at what boost do you drive to achieve those numbers?
